Herbs That Heal Eczema



Eczema is such a common condition that it affects every one of five children during their school-going age. It is also a very common disease found in infants. Eczema in adults could be a recurring chronic condition, which the person may have to live with throughout life. Hence, it can be said that eczema is one of the most prevalent skin problems in the world today.



Eczema is dermatitis, i.e. an inflammation of the upper layers of the skin known as the epidermis.Eczema is an itchycondition, which leads to red rashes when scratched.

Symptoms

Below are some common symptoms of atopic eczema:
  • Common symptoms of eczema include areas of thickened, red, itchy skin
  • The skin may be broken in places.
  • Some areas of the skin are cracked.
  • The skin usually feels dry.
  • Many areas of skin are itchy, and sometimes raw if scratched a lot.
  • Itching usually worse at night.
  • Scratching may also result in areas of thickened skin.
  • Some areas of skin become red and inflamed.
  • Some inflamed areas develop blisters and weep (ooze liquid).
  • The skin has red to brownish-gray colored patches.
  • Areas of skin may have small, raised bumps.

How can I know if I have Eczema?

If you or your child has a persistent fever of 104 degrees F or higher, seek medical attention. For an infant, seek help immediately for a fever higher than 101 degrees F.
  • The skin will be much more itchy.
  • Itchiness and scratching will make the skin redder, raw and very sensitive.
  • Many of the affected areas will feel hot.
  • The skin will be much more scaly and drier.
  • The raised bumps will be more pronounced and may leak fluid.
  • Blisters will appear.
  • The affected areas may be infected with bacteria.

Ayurvedic Cure

Babul (Acacia arabica) The bark of the babul tree is potent in the treatment of eczema. It is boiled in water and the fumes are used to foment the affected areas.

Butea (Butea monosperma) In the treatment of skin diseases such as eczema, its the seeds of the butea tree that are useful. The seeds of the butea are mixed with lime water and are applied on the affected regions to get the required benefits.

Linseed (Linum usitatissimum) Linseed is applied on the affected regions in the form of its oil mixed with lime water. This is effective in the treatment of many skin ailments including eczema.

Madhuca (Madhuca indica) Madhuca leaves are used to get the madhuca oil. This is applied on the regions where the eczema has occurred to obtain relief.
